Flu Prevention

Flu vaccines are recommended for children each fall. The flu vaccine helps reduce the risk of influenza infection and can also reduce the chance of severe illness if a child does get the flu.

Flu prevention is especially important for children with chronic medical conditions, including asthma, heart disease, diabetes, immune system concerns, and other conditions that may increase the risk of complications.

Most children can receive flu vaccine during a wellness visit. If your child is due for a flu vaccine between regular checkups, we may also offer seasonal vaccine clinic appointments when available.

RSV Protection for Newborns

RSV is a common respiratory virus that can be especially concerning for newborns and young infants. It often causes cold symptoms, but in some babies it can lead to wheezing, trouble breathing, poor feeding, or the need for hospital care.

RSV protection may be available in the fall and winter for newborns whose mothers did not receive the RSV vaccine during pregnancy. This protection is given as an antibody shot that helps reduce the risk of severe RSV illness.

During Wellness Visits and Seasonal Clinics

Flu vaccines and RSV antibody shots can often be given during wellness visits when your child is due, and the product is available.
