After you go home from the hospital with a newborn, everything feels new and different. Your baby may not sleep the way you expected, feeding may feel harder than you imagined, and you may find yourself worrying about almost everything.

When should I schedule my child’s first visit?
We usually like to see newborns in the office after you’ve been home for 2 to 3 days. This gives us a chance to check your baby’s feeding, weight, color, and overall health, and to answer any questions that have come up since you left the hospital.
What should I bring to the first visit in the office?
If we saw your baby in the hospital, you do not need to bring any medical records.
If we did not see your baby in the hospital, please bring any records from your baby’s hospital stay, including discharge paperwork, feeding information, weight information, bilirubin results, and any other instructions you were given.
You’ll probably also bring plenty of supplies, a diaper bag, and a carrier. And if this is your first baby, you may bring too much stuff. Don’t worry. That’s normal.
Will my first visit be covered by my insurance?
Most newborn visits are covered by insurance, but coverage depends on your specific plan.
The most important step is to contact your insurance company or HR department as soon as possible so your baby can be added to your insurance plan. Please let us know if you need help with this process.
